National Poetry Month – ‘Prayer for the Lost Ones

Apparently April is National Poetry Month. Poetry is a genre I often find baffling and so I don’t write a great deal of it. However I did have the following published in an anthology entitled ‘Journey to Crone‘ which was published March 8th 2013 in honor of International Women’s Day. I’ve shared it here. It records the lessons I learned from one of my most painful moments. May it be of benefit.

Prayer for the lost ones

Life
is full of little deaths
this is not meant to be despairing
there is no comfort
in clinging to that which is gone
no glory
in possessing that which was never yours
in the first place.

Love
is full of torments
do not let this be discouraging
there is a freedom
in letting go of that grasping
a strange joy
in releasing that which was never yours
in the first place.

Yes, life is full of little deaths

For this is the only way
in which she continues.
